 SURFARI MAPS

All the maps are totally made by hand, using a variety of up to date sources. Topographic maps, satellite imagery and Guy's own photographic references are combined to produce accurate maps in an old school style. Particular attention is paid to coastal characteristics such as points, beaches, river outlets and reef outlines to emphasise wave potential. This gives the surfer the ability to visualise these potentials under different wind and swell conditions.

The maps are printed on Hahnemuhle 310gsm German Etching Paper using Epsom Ultrachrome K3 archival inks. The result is a crisp clear print that is difficult to tell the difference when placed next to the original. Each print is signed and numbered and comes with a provenance note which also includes the originals' statistics.

Guy lives with his family in Byron Bay on the north coast of NSW Australia.

Below is my visual Curriculum Vitae

G1.jpg

Field work in G Land, where it all began. Curiosity about the dynamics of such an awesome wave led me to look deeper, which led me to start looking further afield: the endless variations of Indonesian reef lines, my own coastline in Australia, the waves and culture of Hawaii and California, Europe and the Pacific, starting with Fiji.

My mission now is to blend my interests in surfing, cartography, art and maritime culture. The art teacher in me compels me to share the knowledge and results of my research. Secret spots won’t be outed without local permission.

My maps are made for the Wall Art Print market. They are a great ice-breaker: viewers love swapping stories and information and just gazing and dreaming, listening to the maps talking.
